Introducing To You The Concrete Ponds & The Various Water Sealant For Concrete Ponds

A concrete pond is the strongest type of pond. If you get it right time your pond will last for many years. However, this method of construction can be technically difficult, expensive and time consuming. Foundations must be reinforced and the final layer of render should include Reinforcement Fibres and be sealed with G4.

Reinforcement Fibres

...adds strength to render

Used in he construction of ponds to add strength and dramatically reduce cracking these 6mm polypropylene fibres should be added to the final layer of mortar. Approximately 20g of rein fibres are needed per kilogram of mortar. Supplied in 900g bags: enough for 45kg of mortar.

G4 Concrete Pond Sealer

...seals water sealant for concrete ponds

If you have decided to make your pond from concrete then you will need to seal the top layer of render to stop the water getting in and the lime, which is harmful to fish, getting out. The best way to do this is with G4 sealant for concrete ponds (G4 Sealer). You don't need a primer, just paint it straight onto the concrete. There is a choice of Clear (dries translucent) or Black.

For Clear you need 3 coats - a total of 550g per square metre (g/m2) that you will cover.

For black you need 2 coats of Clear first then two coats of Black. That's 440g/m2 of Clear and 400g/m2 of Black.

You can also use G4 to coat flagstone, waterfalls, statues ans other concrete products to make them safe for your pond. Buy from Bradshaws Direct... Click Here

Calculating your internal ponds area

The amount of G4 water sealant for concrete ponds you need depends on the internal surfaces area of your pond. In the example opposite the ponds is a brick shape 2 metres by 1 metre and 1 metre deep. It makes the working out easier if you draw an exploded picture like we've done.

Step 1 Work out the area of the bottom (in this case 2 x 1 or 2m2 )

Step 2 Find the area of Side A (in this case 2 x 1 or 2m2)

Step 3 Find the area of End C (in this case 1 x 1 or 1 m2).

Step 4 Add up all of your answers to get a total area (in this case 2 + 4 + 2 = 8m2)

Step 5 Multiply this by the coverage rates given above (in our example 8m2 x 550g = 4.4kg of clear G4 in total)
